We remember William James Sefton Thaw 21/09/1924 - 16/02/2019

The Fitzroy Motor Boat Club Inc extends its condolences to the family and friends of Bill Thaw on the passing of a much-respected member and former World War II veteran.

Bill was a life member and served on the Committee for 12 years as Honorary Treasurer.  Bill and his wife June were very active around the Club.  Bill loved his sailing and was the happiest on the water.

He was also a foundation member of the Rockhampton State Emergency Service, the Prostrate Support and Awareness Group, as well as a life member of the Returned Services League (Frenchville Branch) and the Royal Australian Navy Corvettes Association.

Bill will be remembered as creative, reliable and determined person, who was fiercely independent with a fighting spirit, but mainly as a husband, a loving and committed father an father-in-law, a grandfather, a valued colleague and peer to many with and an open and warm friend to all who knew him.

News:
The Annual General Meeting for the Fitzroy Motor Boat Club was held on Sunday 16 December 2018.  Congratulations go to the new Commodore, Tim Carroll, and all the newly elected members of the Management Committee.  Tim's family have a long association with fishing and boating in the Fitzroy River.  It was good to see the strong engagement of members when it came to considering and making modifications to the rule changes that had been proposed by the Management Committee.  The club has been in a position to make a number of improvements over the past 12 months with the help of successful grant applications.  Thank you also time and effort that has been put in by the previous committee members.

The Fitzroy Motor Boat Club Inc. was one of the lucky recipients to be in receipt of a grant from the Rockhampton Regional Council's Community Assistance Program.  The grant funds were for the refurbishment of the club house roof.  Without the assistance of the Rockhampton Regional Council we would not have been able to complete this project as soon as we were able.
